A Hobby Business: 3 Reasons You Should Start One

I had the pleasure of being contacted by Cavyl Stewart to write a guest-post about turning your hobby in to a business. This post fits in perfectly today for one of the two Shop Talk Tuesday posts.

Why would a hobby business make the
perfect home business?
Well, finding people who are interested in starting their own business isn't too hard. After all, who wouldn't like to make money being their own boss? However, one thing many would-be entrepreneurs seem to have in common is an inability to decide exactly what kind of business they should start. Many of them never consider that making a list of their hobbies is the perfect place to begin. Largely because many people can't imagine making money doing something they already enjoy.

However, there are many good reasons why you should consider starting a hobby business.

Why not make money doing something you enjoy?

For many people, the idea of a hobby business just doesnít compute. After all, there are people out there who never had a job they actually enjoyed. To them, work equals boring, and mind-numbing. Being able to make money while doing something they like seems like a pipe dream.

But there are thousands of people out there who will tell you it is possible. Who have successfully started their own hobby business, and who actually have fun while fattening their bank accounts. And, if they can do it, you can too.

Ferry Travel in Europe - Guest Post

This is a guest post written by Sana. Her bio is at the end of the article.

Find the Best Travelling Option to Visit Continental Europe
The port of Dover in the UK is the gateway to the continental Europe and so, is served by most of the UK’s leading ferry operators offering competitive prices to travel with the cross Channel ferries. There are many other convenient routes and options to sail through the continent which are also included in this piece of discussion.

The most important destination on the other side of the Channel is France, which is a perfect gateway to explore the other European countries and so is the popular route to travel from the UK. Every year millions of travellers from the UK travel with ferry to France and arrive at the famous French ports of Calais and Dunkirque to proceed towards their desired destinations on the continental Europe. Norfolkline ferries operating on Dover to Dunkerque along with P&O Ferries and SeaFrance on the Dover to Calais are among the most popular ferry operators on this route. The modern fleets and State of the art ferries, frequent sailings, convenient time schedules and cheap prices have made travelling from Dover a unique and attractive option that really appeals.

1940s Hollywood Glam Bathroom Redo - Guest Post

How is a girl supposed to embrace her love of the past in a modern ranch house? I found the secret when my husband and I undertook a 1940s-inspired Hollywood glam bathroom remodel.

The Inspiration
The concept started with my Siamese cat, Emily, a haughty feline starlet who loves to sit strike indignant poses. Everything about her exudes Hollywood glamour.

As I looked at her, an idea emerged. I wanted a 1940s glam bathroom. To which my husband responded, “a what?” I showed him some pictures, and he said, “oh, like in BioShock.” To which I responded, “in what?” Apparently BioShock is a dark video game set in Rapture, an underwater dystopian city built in 1946. Amazing! An art history major and a sci-fi fanatic agree on a decorating scheme.

History Reinterpreted
We pulled ideas from the past and gave them a modern spin with geometry and color being the glue that holds things together. Squares are everywhere. And all the fixtures and accessories are done in brushed nickel (rather than the more period chrome).
Our Kohler bathtub and toilet feel period, but are completely modern. We also went totally modern with a seamless Swanstone manufactured product for the shower surround, and we made it feel extra spacious with a curved shower curtain.

For the cabinetry, we found a local contractor who built us a custom wood vanity, complete with little square detailing, for less than we would have paid for a boring vanity from a big box store. My husband built an adorable vanity niche to display my pretties.

5 Ways to Travel for Next to Nothing - Guest Post

This is a guest post written by Elizabeth Cutten. She contributes on FindAirlineCards, a miles credit cards / travel blog helping travelers save, as well as find the next hot spot to travel to.

I think everyone on this planet loves to travel but there is one thing that always sets them back when they say they can’t do it and that’s money. Well, what if I told you that you can travel for next to nothing or even free? As long as you have the time, I can promise you that it can happen. No, these aren’t scams either!

#1 Volunteer your time – If you have all the time in the world, you’re going to find that you can volunteer with many organizations across the globe. You’re simply going to trade your time in for some free travel opportunities. Look into volunteer opportunities such as “Willing Workers on Organic Farms” or “The Help Exchange”

#2 Look into Couch Surfing – Couch surfing is a great way to travel for free most of the time. Couch surfing is basically a place where someone is going to allow you to stay with them for free. If you have a destination in mind, these are great places to take advantage of, as well as meet new people. Websites such as CouchSurfing.com can find you the place that you need for free!

Easy Ways to Add Summer Flare to Your Living Room

The warm months of summer evoke thoughts of light, bright colors and outdoor activities. Taking those ideas and using them to change the décor of a living room is not difficult. There are several simple ways of redecorating the main living area of a house to reflect the summer season. Here are some ideas to help inspire your living room’s summer makeover.
A Lighter Look Sofas, chairs and pillows can easily be given a lighter look and more comfortable texture during the warm summer months with the use of fabrics.
Slipcovers – Traditionally, homeowners used slipcovers every summer and winter to change the appearance of furniture to match the season. Now with so many coverings available made of lighter fabric and colors this is becoming a popular trend again. Those made from natural fibers, such as cotton, feel cooler than most furniture upholstery, and the brighter colors compliment the sunlight of the time of year.
Pillow Coverings – Similar to the slipcovers above, new coverings for pillows made of natural, lighter fabrics with vibrant colors will go along with the refreshed look of the furnishings. They will also feel more comfortable than the fuzzy versions preferred during winter months. If coverings are not desired, simply storing cold-month pillows and buying new ones for summer is another option.

Guest Post - Happy Birthday? You Decide.

Happy Birthday?
Why is it as children we can’t wait for our birthdays to roll around?  Oh, that’s right, WE WERE YOUNG!
*1 YEAR with BALBINKA*

The older I get the more I buy into the slogan of…”40 is the new 20.”  (Yeah, right tell that to my thighs).  I hate the fact that gravity is Mother Nature’s cruel joke to women – hey we’re suppose to be on the same side.
older and wiser

I really noticed a change in my body at about 30.  Things that were once firm and, uhum, higher, get more saggy and baggy as the sadistic hand of time marches on.

With each year I put under my ever-expanding belt, birthdays become more and more of a reminder that I’m not twenty-something anymore.  And, it doesn’t matter how many mantras I recite in my head, the fact is I’m getting older.  Now I guess there’s only the wiser part to look forward to – when exactly does that kick in?

The truth is. . .age is only a number. . .we are as young as we feel…40 IS the new 20.  And perhaps, if I tell myself this enough, my thighs will eventually catch on too.

Happy Birthday?  You decide.
