Below are photos of costumes from movies and television dramas set during
Great Britain's post-Regency Era (1820-1837), inspired by a post in a Livejournal community:
Little Dorrit (2008)
Haven't seen this one yet - Martha Jones from Doctor Who (2005) is in it, though! How can you go wrong?

Globalization, Gossip and Greed - Golden Days Festival
What was so special about the 1700s in Denmark? According to the Golden Days Festival site, this was a time characterized by an exchange between:the open minded and curious and the closed and introverted. It was a florissant period where merchants made fortunes on slaves and arms trade, while citizens' rights and freedom of speech were debated in the newly established clubs.
Between September 3rd and 26th, the festival in Copenhagen, Denmark will feature exhibits, lectures, concerts, masquerade balls and more! Every year the Golden Days Festival plays host to a different time period. Sounds like fun, doesn't it?

More info here. That site is where all photos came from.

Crochetized Gloves
Yesterday I mentioned that I collect vintage gloves, amongst other things. I have around 7 or 8 pairs in various colours, lengths and styles. While the below gloves aren't vintage, they certainly have that feel to them. They are hand crocheted gloves made by Viola in Lithuania. She is having a giveaway on her site where you can win a pair of gloves from her Etsy shop!

Being a Costumer: Montréal Week - Tresnormale T-Shirts
The slim-fitted t-shirts from Tresnormale pay homage to neighbourhoods, streets and landmarks in both Toronto and Montréal in their Urban Designs line.
Every T- shirt on this site is made to order. Instead of the usual printing process of heat-transfer, I silk-screen each shirt individually. - via Tresnormale.
Here are a few of my favourites:
Tresnormale also features shirts with designs of philosophers,
composers and more.
Which designs are your favourites?

Being a Costumer: Bright Star
I recently watched this period movie about the love affair between British poet John Keats and Fanny Brawne. I was taken by the costuming above all else, but also thoroughly enjoyed the romantic drama and the acting.
Fanny is an accomplished seamstress as we can see by the wonderful outfits she creates. I like how certain aspects of the outfits appear several times in the movie, showing how one can combine different pieces to create new looks, as seen above. I often find that costumers in movies put together entirely new outfits for every scene, which seems a bit unrealistic given the amount of money, time and resources that would have gone into each item.
The dress above looks like it may have been Gothic-ly influenced:
I love how Fanny wears really different and interesting outfits throughout the film, often boasting about how she is the only one at this or that party with a particular type of ruffled collar:
Here we see the typical outfit that Keats wore during the film. Fanny is wearing a Spencer jacket, typical for the Regency time period, but different from her usual/unique clothes in other parts of the movie.
All photos are screencaps or from IMDB.

Being a Costumer: Natural Coloured Knit
Knitted clothing is maybe something I would have been more interested in when I was younger, or if I lived in a cooler-climated city. I stumbled upon a guide in Japanese with great pictures of little girls in knitted things, with instructions on how to create the items in the back of the magazine. While I am not in the least bit interested in the creation of knitted items, I do like the look of these photos:

Being a Costumer: Rudsak Spring Collection
There are some really eye-catching pieces in the Rudsak Spring collection. Rudsak is based in Montreal and has a great line of footwear, bags and my favourite: outerwear. They make simple classics with a touch of glamour. As a vegan, I love that they have so many pieces in their non-leather range of outerwear.

Being a Costumer: Firefly Fashion
Anyone remember this great cowboys-in-space show: Firefly, and the movie Serenity? Firefly is one of my favorite tv shows and I especially love Nathan Fillion's character Malcolm Reynolds. The show has a great fan-base, despite only having been on for 1 season, and I'm sure the outfits are replicated at just about every geeky convention! Just do a search and you'll see just how many pictures come up!
The Costumer's Guide to Movie Costumes has a great page on how to get different looks depending on the character you're wanting to dress up as.
The above are not the outfits from the show, but just a cast photo that I liked.
These are more of the classic outfits from the show. I would dress up like Malcom's right-hand girl Zoe (the one with the pretty curly hair on the right). Maybe I will some day.
This is a classic Kaylee look that many people seem to replicate at different conventions.
This is from the page of fashion designer for Firefly, Shawna.

Being a Costumer: Regency Collection of Prints
One of the things that I really love to do is to look at and research costumes/vintage fashion. I don't do it often because I get so wrapped up in it all and end up spending hours looking at/reading things.
These are some great prints painted by F. Wheatly and engraved by Vendramini. They were all published between 1792 and 1796 and depict different street sellers in London at the time.

Two Bunches a-Penny, Primroses, Two Bunches a Penny.
By this time there weren't many flower-sellers in the streets because people had their own gardens. These women still existed, selling flowers from their homes in the countries for use as herbs and medicine.
Old Chairs to Men
This depicts chair-menders who fixed chairs of the masses, made of rush or cane.

Turnips and Carrots ho
These rural visitors, with their laden donkeys, were frequently seen in the streets of London selling Turnips, carrots and other vegetables. A large number of the hawkers, in fact, were country people from outside the capital.
