Giveaway 30 Days - Mixed Media Cat Tile

Day 21's giveaway is a mixed-media cat tile from Kimbas Critters

Kimba's description of the giveaway item:

~♥~ A cute orange tabby cat dreams of love.~♥~

This whimsical collage is on a painted ceramic tile, 4x4 inches.
The piece features one of my hand-painted kitties (acrylic on heavy watercolor paper) dreaming of a heart  it has been sprinkled lightly with glitter and has tiny hearts added for sparkly-ness
There is a hanger on the back so you can hang it on your wall display it on a tiny easel, or you can lean it up against your favorite stuff to create your own little romantic, kitty-esque scene.

Buy something from Kimba
before July 27th and save 10%! Just mention that you saw her feature here at Being Tazim.

As if that weren't incentive enough to make a purchase:
20% of any items sold until July 8 will be donated to http://www.seabirdsanctuary.com/ to help sea life affected by the spill in the gulf.

A portion of sales are always donated to an animal charity. If you have a specific one you like you can mention it to Kimba.

I was lucky enough to get a great this great interview with Kimba:

1. How does your art practice fit in to your life?
Making art has been a major part of my life since I was a child. My Grandfather was an artist and gave me my first set of brushes and oil paints when I was very young. Due to his encouragement I learned to love painting and creating art, always striving to learn new ways to express my feelings through my artwork. I need to create in my life, if for some reason I am unable to paint or create for a period of time I become very depressed.

2. Where does everything come together?
I paint and create my art in my living room on our coffee table or spread out on the floor. I do not have a studio or anything close to one because I enjoy painting etc. while my family is around me. You will find me at all hours of the day and night sitting on the floor painting there surrounded by my husband, children and our spoiled but lovable kitties. I spend the majority of my time painting and crafting in my living room but that doesn't mean that my creative mess is contained in that area...Art supplies, half finished projects waiting to be born, items that I find which may be usable in a collage or art piece can be found just about everywhere in our house.

3. Do you have any specific goals for your Etsy site or art practice?
My goals for my Art and my Etsy shop are mostly centered around being able to help animals. I feel that we as humans owe it to the creatures on our planet who do not have a voice at this time in our society to give back what we have taken. We have over stepped our bounds in so many ways and I believe it is only right that we pay back what we can. Selling my artwork through Etsy and other online venues and donating as much as I can is what makes me happy and in the future I hope to be able to continue to do that and more.

4. What would be your super power if you could have one?
What superpower would I want to have... My husband and I are mega fans of the show "Heroes" and have had that discussion so many times! I would love to have the ability to talk to animals and understand what they are wanting say but can't. It would be so awesome to be able to tell someone what their animal companions are feeling-- "Rover really doesn't like that sweater you make him wear and wants you to know its kind of uncomfortable and extremely embarassing..."

5. Recommend a good book and movie.
Being an avid reader I am kind of pulling my hair out here trying to think of one book to recommend so I will bend the rules a little and pick a fiction and a non-fiction book. As far as nonfiction goes I will say "Fast Food Nation: The Dark Side of the All-American Meal" by Eric Schlosser. It is all about the fast food industry and how it has effected the planet, globally and locally and boy oh boy it is a real eye opener--you will never be able to look at that Big Mac the same way again after reading this. I am a big horror fan so for fiction I have to say anything by Stephen King is recommended but one of favorites is "The Stand."

I love Asian films and there are so many I would recommend but since I must mention only one I will say that you must take the time to see The Great Yokai War (Yokai Daisenso) by Takashi Miike. In short it is about A young boy who is chosen to be a protector of all things good (The Kirin Rider) at a local festival, during his journey he comes upon a great spiritual war and must free the world of the spirits from oppression. This movie is wonderful, filled with Japanese folklore, gorgeous and strange and I love it.

6. Where do you live in the world (you can talk about your city or state) What do you like most about it?
We have lived in quite a few places over the years. I just don't feel comfortable staying in a place for too long--I feel like there is just so much out there in the world to see and I don't want to miss seeing and experiencing as many places as possible while I am alive. We are currently living in North Carolina in a small city called High Point which is known as the "Furniture Capital of the World". Once a thriving area producing most of the furniture used in the US, the city is now filled with empty and abandoned factories.
My favorite thing to do here is walking in the historical area among the old factories. Abandoned, empty and falling apart, beautiful and sad , this once bustling place is quiet and still and on some days it feels as though ghosts are looking back at you through the dark and dusty windows.
