Sail Boat Dream Home - Saturday in the Sun

Blog Journal Project Day 25
What is My Dream Home?

While the topic is 'dream home', I decided to focus on my dream home in the form of a sail boat. My dream home is a house I saw in the Canadian magazine Azure a few years ago. I have the old issue in storage. Someday I'll dig it out and scan it to show you all. Basically, it is a house out in the prairies - Alberta/Saskatchewan/Manitoba. I'd put mine in Alberta, outside Calgary - so I'd be close to the Rocky Mountains, 2 major cities, and still be secluded. The house is a basic structure with windows all around it...that's why it would have to be in the middle of nowhere - with prairie grass and hills as far as the eye can see! It is generally sunny in many parts of Alberta, despite the snowy/cold winters, I think this would work out well. The house doesn't look like a typical house, it is a rectangular structure with modern lines. I'd add in Danish modern furniture and some colour in accessories, but keep the (few) walls a light colour to not detract from the outside views.

Yesterday, it was a perfect day - blue, clear skies, pleasant temperature with a bit of breeze. . .no clouds! In typical Vancouver fashion, it only lasted one day. We are now back to clouds and mugginess. We spent the day walking to Canada Place and beyond almost to Stanley Park. We watched in awe as 2 massive cruise ships brought on passengers. One was a Diamond Princess cruise ship - the biggest ship I have ever seen in my life! It made me long to go on a cruise to Alaska, go swimming...go sailing...

We walked along the seawall by Canada Place (click the link for a previous post on that area with pictures), to look at sail boats. G and I dream of owning a sail boat and going around the world in it. I know that this won't happen for a long while, as I want to have a secure (on land) home first. What most appeals to me about this idea is the feeling of freedom and seclusion. I'd love to hop from coastal town to town and see what they have to offer.

The Next 7 Days

Blog Journal Project Day 24

I really don't plan what to do this far in advance unless I am going on vacation or have a specific event or work or school to consider. This list is a bit vague and of course I will be doing a lot more each day. . .like spending several hours online, for instance.

Do you plan this far in advance?

What's in My Bag?

Blog Journal Project: I have missed a few days, but I think it is okay. I am not really a completion-ist. Here is one of my purses/bags with some things that I often carry. I forgot to include my cell phone, which is a Samsung something or other. It isn't a smart phone. I don't use it often, as I hate talking on the phone. Anyway, here it is:

 - Purse - The purse is a vegan felt bag from Matt and Nat. G gave it to me 2 Christmases ago.
 - Le Sportsac bag -  came with another bag I have and use. I put my "My Neighbour Totoro" wallet, mirror and coin purse (which holds coins and coupons) in it so that I can easily move it between purses
 - Sony Ebook Reader - this is a touch-screen PRS 700 which I got last year. Love it!
 - An organic, vegan granola bar  - choconut flavour
 - Purse Hook - because putting your bag on the ground/floor is gross.
 - Pilot G Tec c4 pen in blue. My signature pen of choice.
 - Umbrella - fold up umbrella because I live in Vancouver.
 - Ecojots little notebook
 - Classic 60GB ipod
 - Earphones - Bang and Olufsen

Mini red pouch with beauty supplies:
All Aveda stuff:
 - Caribbean Therapy body creme travel size
 - Lipstick in Sutra
 - Lipgloss in Juneberry
 - Smooth Infusion Style-Prep Smoother in travel size (for flyaway, and to protect against humidity)
 - Green Science Firming Face Cream sample size
 - Blue Oil - blue chamomile and peppermint to relieve headaches. It is a rollerball to put on temples. I use it all the time. I am one of those people who constantly has a headache!

Missing: cell phone, keys and the 2 or 3 reusable grocery bags that I always take with me. This bag is big enough to just pop groceries or whatever else in to, but my other purses are smaller.

Where I Blog

Day 14
click picture for bigger version

You can see that I use an external monitor, keyboard and mouse. The picture in the upper right is my macbook with a 'be true to your school' type cover for UBC. My laptop is above some books and a vintage card file (this only shows half of it, there are 2 drawers). My 2 external hard drives are tucked on the right. The Norrebo shelf from IKEA is on the immediate left of my vintage mid-century modern desk, which has a lovely view. . .of my kitchen. :P I love my ScanSnap scanner and my speakers which we've had for 10 years now and they still sound amazing! I don't love or even like my keyboard. I need a new fancy apple one, this one is a bit stiff to type on. Oh, and I need a magic mouse, too. Good thing my birthday is coming up.

Vancouver My Home

Blog Journal Project
Day 10: May 22, 2010
marina stanley park

Today's assignment from ToddlerAwesome is all about describing where we live. You may know of my city because of this recent global-sporting-event that happened here, called the Winter Olympics. It is springtime and there are flowers all around, trees are beautifully green and full . . .but half the city still looks like it is preparing for something huge or recovering from the same. It'll be interesting to see how the city evolves, though I hope I am not here much longer to witness it.

I was born here - or rather a suburb of GVRD (Greater Vancouver District) or is it being referred to as Metro Vancouver now? Anyhow, my family and I moved to Houston, Texas when I was 2, away from my large extended family. After moving to Calgary, Alberta when I was 12 and living there for a decade and a half, I moved here in order to, amongst other things, return to post-secondary school.

Let me tell you, the rain for almost all of the year is down right depressing, and so is the insanely high cost of living. Sure, I like mountains and an ocean as much as the next person, but I find them, more often than not, completely inaccessible since I am a student and have no money to be able to actually get out and enjoy any of that.

Since this is turning into a bit of a downer journal post, let me talk about and show you some of the things I love about living here (because there are some things that a smaller city like Calgary just can't offer)! Read the rest after the jump:
